Salone Del Gusto and Terra Madre Presentation

Carlo Petrini presents at RioCentro, the Salone Internazionale Del Gusto and Terra Madre that will take place at Turin, Italy, from 25 till 29 of October. The Salone gathers farmers, producers, fisherman, journalists, scholars and people from all over the world interested in everything related to the production and consume of food.

Circuito Carioca de Feiras Orgânicas – Ipanema

Slow Food is supporting the farmers’ markets at the Circuito Carioca de Feiras Orgânicas. Slow Food has organized activities such as the Biodiversity Stall gathering products from all over Brazil. Members of Slow Food and the Terra Madre Network will talk about ingredients that are not very known even among Brazilians. Marcelo Costa, from SEDES (Secretariat of Solidary Economic Development of Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall) and Carlo Petrini will be there. The press is invited to attend.

People’s Summit

In a relaxed chat, producers, chefs, scholars and members of the Terra Madre Network will talk about the food and its complex chain of production. The 10 minutes presentations will also speak about sustainable consume and concrete experiences that use food as an instrument for social transformation. Carlo Petrini will attend.

Circuito Carioca de Feiras Orgânicas – Tijuca

UE Commissioner for Development and Cooperation – Europaid, Andris Piebalgs, Mr. Andris Piebalgs will visit the Circuito Carioca de Feiras Orgânicas (the Carioca Organic Circuit of Farmers’ Markets), invited by Slow Food president, Mr. Carlo Petrini. The visit starts at 10:45. The EU Commissioners will meet the producers, follow the activities of Slow Food and talk to the press.

Circuito Carioca de Feiras Orgânicas – Jardim Botânico

UE Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Cioloş, the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea, Mr. Corrado Clini, and FAO Director-General, Mr. José Graziano da Silva, will visit the Circuito Carioca de Feiras Orgânicas (the Carioca Organic Circuit of Farmers’ Markets), invited by Mr. Carlo Petrini. The visit will start at 9h. After meeting the producers, they will talk to the press.

Bairro Peixoto

Chef Bernardo Simões, from Mata Atlântica Convivium, shows how to prepare diferent types of salads and dressings. Regina Tchelly presents the project Favela Orgânica, that teaches how to use parts of fruits and vegetables to its fullest to inhabitants of Morro da Babilônia, an underprivileged community. The project Revolução dos Baldinhos (Little Bucket Revolution) show how to make compost from organic waste. The press is invited to attend.

The guide Rio de Janeiro – 100 Tips Slow Food will be distributed in all events above. Produced by Slow Food in collaboration with the magazine Prazeres da Mesa and SENAC-SP, Rio de Janeiro – 100 Tips Slow Food (in English and Portuguese), it gathers recommendations for botecos (popular bars), markets and restaurants. The guide also presents innovative social projects relating to agriculture and gastronomy in the favelas.
